DGM - Emission label

What is an emissions label?

An emission label provides the consumer with information on the emission of pollutants and is intended to protect him or her from adverse health effects.

The emission label developed by the Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel e. V. refers to a collection / a model and is attached directly to these products.

Proof of classification is provided by means of appropriate pollutant tests, and the label is awarded exclusively by the Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel e. V. (German Furniture Quality Association).

The following collections/models can be awarded the emissions label:

  • Seating furniture
  • Box furniture
  • Tables
  • Office furniture
  • Slatted frames
  • Mattresses
  • Beds

What does emission class A mean?

Emission class A corresponds to the requirements of the limit values according to RAL-GZ 430 or based on the requirements of the Blue Angel RAL-UZ 38 (wood-based materials), RAL-UZ 117 (upholstered furniture) or RAL-UZ 119 (mattresses).

What does emission class D mean?

Emission class D corresponds to the legal requirement regarding the limit value for formaldehyde.

Who can apply for the emission label?

Furniture manufacturers for seating furniture, box furniture, tables, office furniture, slatted frames, mattresses and beds in connection with a label use contract that meet the requirements of the award basis for the DGM emissions label.

Which products can carry the DGM emissions label?
  • Seating furniture
  • Box furniture
  • Tables
  • Office furniture
  • Slatted frames
  • Mattresses
  • Beds
Required proof
  • Test reports from neutral testing institutes
  • Test methods and requirements according to RAL-GZ 430 or based on the respective requirements of the Blue Angel.
  • Annual tests in the first three years, then biennial follow-up tests and verification
What does the RAL quality mark "Golden M" mean?

The German Furniture Quality Association (DGM) was founded in 1963 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013. More than 120 members - furniture manufacturers and suppliers from Germany and abroad - have now voluntarily committed themselves to complying with the requirements of the DGM in the RAL quality system. These requirements not only relate to durability and perfect function, but also include consumer safety, health and the environmental compatibility of production. Each individual factor is thoroughly tested in independent testing institutes and monitored by regular follow-up tests.

What does the Blue Angel eco-label mean?

The Blue Angel guarantees that products and services meet high standards in terms of environmental, health and usage properties. The entire life cycle must always be considered in the assessment. For each product group, criteria are developed that the products and services labelled with the Blue Angel must fulfil. In order to reflect technical developments, the Federal Environment Agency reviews the criteria every three to four years. In this way, companies are challenged to make their products ever more environmentally friendly. In 2013, the Blue Angel celebrated its 35th anniversary. It has achieved a multitude of environmental and consumer policy successes and has become a recognised brand with high orientation value.
